Poetic Devices (Techniques)

| Stage Directions | Instructions for the cast to do certain actions, facial expressions, etc. to add to the characters’ speech and make it more interesting |

| Lighting | How the stage is lighted during the play to add to the setting |
| Props | Items used by the cast to perform the play |
ANSWERING TECHNIQUES FOR COMPREHENSION
1. Read quickly through the poem/play.
2. Carefully read through the questions to have a rough idea of what you need to look out for and to avoid repetition in your answers.
3. Reread the poem/play slowly and make sure you understand as much as possible.
4. Start answering the questions.
5. Remember to think carefully before writing. Markers look out for quality not quantity. Be as accurate and to the point as possible.
6. Remember to supply enough points and explanations for the allocated marks. Usually, 1 mark = 1 point, 2 marks = 1 point + explanation OR 2 points, etc., depending on the question.
7. Remember that evidence can either be a direct quotation (copying from the poem/play with the use of double inverted commas) or paraphrased from the poem/play (in your own words).
8. Remember to write in proper English and full sentences. Under strict conditions you will be penalised for failing to do so.
9. Check your work as many times as you can.
